Jan 5th - Water about 12,500cfs
Every Dog has his day and this was ours! On a day that was supposed to be 41 and rainy all day, we enjoyed 50+ degrees and no rain or wind.
And we experienced some amazing fishing. Today we boated 14 Steelhead, had another 6 to the boat, that we managed to loose in various ways,
and lost at least another 5 that gave us the early middle-fin-up. The 2 hours between 8am and 10am were particularly frantic.
Kevin Davis of Catch-The-Drift did yet another great job of getting us to the best spots to fish
as well as reminding us of some of the finer points of float fishing. These were my very first fish caught completely on a "center-Pin" rig - probably the best way to drift fish.
What is not shown is some of the more creative things that happen to you with a Center-Pin BEFORE you learn to set the drag ON when working a tangle - things go from bad to worse in a heart beat.
And believe it or not, there are no fish in the trees. Oh well, live and learn...
Jan 6th - Water from 14,000 to 15,600cfs
We only had a few hours to fish today and the water was way up from yesterday so the fish were spread out and it took us
a while to locate them. Once we did, we managed 4 to the boat and lost another 5 good ones. KD kicked our butts a little today
as the high water and a stiff West wind made fishing a bit tougher. He had 2 of the 4 we boated- Go Kev!
All in all, a pretty amazing to days in early January.
Notice that all of these fish are Steelhead and that we caught no Brown Trout - pretty wierd and something that no one has been able to explain to us.
